A Few Cards

I've been taking a little time to do some things that are off the beat and path.  I normally work on a specific project, but lately I've been feeling the need to just experiment and create.  With that in mind, I came up with these two cards.

The loop design is one I found on a new cartridge I picked up - Elegant Cakes.  The heart was cut out using Spellbinders dies.  The crimped paper is something I picked up several weeks ago and I am happy to finally have a use for it.  The Bliss and Butterfly stamps are from Stampin' Up.  The patterned paper is from SEI's Chocolot.  I have been seeing these paper flowers for quite some time now and after seeing a tutorial on Capadia's blog I decided to try one.  I am smitten with them and will be making a lot more in the future.

I was fooling around with my new spellbinders dies and one of my newer Stampin' Up stamp sets when I came up with this one.  I think it's perfect for Valentine's Day, or just Lurve in general.  Lol.

Friendship

Silences make the real conversations between friends. Not the saying but the never needing to say is what counts.

Blessed Are Those

Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting.

Here's To The Crazy Ones

Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do. ~ Steve Jobs, Apple Computers

Site Under Construction

As some of you may know, I have a few other sections of this blog that I haven't really set up yet.  I have a Words of Inspiration page which is looking pretty bare, and I haven't updated my Gallery recently. I have decided to take the next few days off from my craft room and work on some different things.   In order to get my Inspiration Page working correctly I am going to have to post a bunch here on the main page and then label and then link those posts on the Inspiration page.  At least that's what the experts at Blogger keep telling me.  So please bear with me.  You're going to see a lot of posts in a short period of time.  I hate to bombard everyone with so much stuff at once, especially if you have signed up for my emails but there really is no other way to do this.  So I have been told. (insert big apology face here).  See you on the other side!!

Happy Birthday Jakob!

My oldest son Jakob turned seven last fall.  His birthday falls around Halloween and because I was having a creative block, I decided to go the easy route and just make Halloween themed invitations for him.  I used a fold out card I initially saw on CardsTV as a jumping off point, and this is what I came up with.

Truth be told, these were fairly intricate.  I had several months to work on them, and I was very happy with the way they turned out.  I used pattern papers from DCVW Halloween stacks.  I like the effect of changing up the papers, and colors of the embellishments so that no two invitations look alike.

A Mother's Day Lantern

I finished this lantern tonight.  It's a gift that a friend of mine is giving to her mother in law for Mother's Day.  Her mother in law is a gardener and loves dragonflies.   I stayed with the basic theme I went with the last time I made one of these, but I replaced butterflies with dragonflies, and changed a few of the flowers.

The cartridges I used are Everyday Pop-Up Cards (the flower box), Gypsy Wanderings, Home Decor, Lacey Labels, Pagoda, Paisley, Pooh & Friends and Plantin Schoolbook.  I was thrilled to find such wonderful images on a variety of cartridges, many I wouldn't have thought of even looking at.

Welcome to May!

Good morning everyone and welcome to May!  It is a fabulous day here in Georgia.  I have finished my Mother's present and have moved onto other things.  Yahoo!  This morning I finished a new scrapbook page that I will put in my own book.  This is pretty significant for me as I haven't scrapbooked for myself since my youngest was born.  The three books I have made in the last year have all been gifts for my mother.  I find that I rarely keep the things I make, the joy for me is in the creating.  But - - as I spent the morning going through old photographs I felt like it might be time to start creating these wonderful pages for our family to keep and treasure.  I can only imagine what I am going to feel when I look back at this page in three four years from now.  So without further adieu, here is my first page.

I must give credit where it is due.  This design is completely scrap lifted from one of the pages I saw in my Sketch 2 Scrap IPhone app.  I loved it so much the only thing I changed was the paper.  The creator of the design is Janine Kocwara and she is an Aussie. You can find her site with the most incredible work here - A Creative Life.

A few notes about the page - I used Make the Cut to create the scalloped square and to cut out the title.  The flowers are from my stash, and some are layered from pieces I cut from the Mothers' Day Bouquet cartridge.  The tag is of course a Spellbinders tag, and the edges were punched used Martha Stewart and EK Success punches.  I really adore this page and am proud to have it be the first in what I hope is a long and beautiful line of preserved memories of my boys.

As always, thanks for stopping by!
