Monochromatic Cards

I have long been fascinated by these type of cards.  They utilize one, or just two colors, but can be very elegant and beautiful in their own right.  I decided it was time I took a stab at some of these.  I started with a sketch from my favorite new magazine -  Paper Crafts Card Ideas for Paper Crafters - and figured I would start with easiest color - white!  You can find the sketch on Page 140 of the magazine.  The creator is Maile Belles.  One of the ways to add interest to a monochromatic cards is to add texture.  So, I pulled out my Grand Calibur, pulled out some embossing folders, and went to work.

The embossing folder in the above card is a Stampin' Up (Sixxix) folder.  The flower was cut using a spellbinders die and then inked while still in the die to create the stenciled look you see.  I added a My Mind's Eye Stella & Rose brad to pull the flowers all together.  They are of course, pop dotted for dimension - something that I could never bring myself NOT to do.  The sentiment is from Waltzingmouse Stamps, and the banner also cut and embossed from a Spellbinders die.

Again, this is a Spellbinders die - the sunflower.  I cut it out twice at the largest size and inked it with Stampin' Up's So Safrron.  I cut the smaller size out once, and then used an extra thick flocking powder for the center.  I recently picked this up from Archiver's and I don't remember the name - I will have to add it later.  I love, love, LOVE the look of this flower.  The embossing folder is an off brand one that I picked up eons ago.  I apologize I can't recall the name but isn't it cute?  I love the flowers.  Again, I used a Waltzingmouse sentiment stamp and the Spellbinders banner die to finish this one off.
