Project Life - Week Five

I have given up trying to photograph these pages without glare.  It's impossible!  That said, it was a decent week for my Project Life album.  Less journaling, more pictures, but I have been in that sort of mood.  And oh, I did something new.  We took a trip to a petting zoo on Saturday and there were so many good pictures.  It's not something I would normally scrapbook, or if I did it wouldn't get done for like six, eight months, so I decided to use one of my different style page protectors to add some additional photos to our album.   I took a Design F page from the Becky Higgins line and added a tone of photos.  I also gave everyone in the family who attended a journaling card so they could write something about the trip that they liked.  That turned into a debate about what was and wasn't appropriate to say, and what pen I should use, and etc, and we wasted a bunch of journaling cards.  My picture of the day for today is of us going back and forth on this.  I swear.  Anyway, it's done!  And I'm thrilled that everyone wrote SOMETHING.

Here are the pictures, and yes, I have blocked out one of the pictures for privacy reasons:

I am still using the P&C from my Cameo for most of my weekly title cards, and some of my journaling cards.  In fact, I'm not using a ton of the items from Becky's kits.  Oh well, at least I know I will have journaling cards if I need them in a pinch.  And let's be honest, this is a year long project so all of this could very well change!

The picture to the right is a actually a combination of 3 pictures that I edited and placed on one 4 x 6 canvas in PhotoShop Elements.  I am far from being a pro using it, but I am really liking the few things that I have been able to figure out so far.  Thanks in large degree to Ali Edwards and Cathy Z's videos.  Those ladies are very generous sharing their knowledge.

Now here is something I different.  This is the Design F page that contains all of the photos from our petting zoo adventure this weekend.  I journaled on the main card and everyone else, got a card someone on the page.  I also added some scallop circles I cut out of paper from Becky Higgins Cobalt cardstock, and some embellishments from October Afternoon with my Tim Holtz tiny stapler.  I love that thing!  One of the things I really love about Project Life is that I would rarely use this type of thing otherwise.  I feel like I'm learning how to add the smallest of details.  And I'm doing it in a way that doesn't add a lot of dimension and doesn't take a lot of time.  Perfect for me!

Brand New!

I have a really quick project to share with you today.  I recently ordered some Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) from the Silhouette store.  I've worked with vinyl before but never like this and I decided to give it a try.  There's no massive amount of creativity here, I just wanted to see how easy it was to work with this stuff, and man, it is beyond easy.  This is a little onesie that I made for little Nico.

This vinyl is actually flocked, so it has this really cool velvet type texture to it.  I used the recommended settings for flocked htv on my Cameo and it worked perfectly.  So guess what I did right afterward - yep, ordered more.  I have ideas, ideas, ideas!

Welcome Sweet Baby Nico!

My best friend keeps procreating.  I mean if 18 month twins weren't enough she went and added this little cutie to her brood this past week.  I went to see him on Friday for the first time and of course I'm in love. He's so snugly!  So, as I did with his siblings, I creating a little "Welcome" to the world shadowbox.  Actually his is much more elaborate than the one I did for the twins, but my style has changed quite a bit then so I felt like I could do more.

This is my attempt at photographing the glass etching I did with Nico's stats.  I wish I could get better pictures, but the etching is small and the glare was well, large, no matter what I did.  So please know that what you see cut out in vinyl is etched very nicely on the top left of the glass!

I want you all to see how absolutely and unbelievably teeny tiny this vinyl cut was.  I wasn't even sure my Cameo could handle it and honestly it wasn't easy.  I threw away about six attempts before I got this clean cut.  My blade got gunked up more than once with itty bitty pieces and I thought I was going to have to pull out a new one for sure.  Grrrrr.  Turns out though with a bit of patience I was able to get it out and I worked with the settlings a bit more to get this cut.  Now weeding was something else, but hey, we do this all for the love of our craft right?

Go Silhouette!

Ride On

So I started this page several weeks ago and after a few hours put it away.  For some reason, as of late I am just getting stuck, stuck, stuck on these scrapbook pages.  What is going on with me lately?  I have a stack of them in a cubby and it keeps getting bigger! When I was deciding what to work on today I figured one of these pages was as good an idea as any.  I pulled it out and made a promise to myself to finish it.  Today.  No more excuses.  I have too many halfway completed scrapbook pages sitting in my pile and I'm trying to get that pile down to a manageable level. So walla!  Mission accomplished for a change!  I am entering this page in the DCWV monthly stack/sketch challenge.  They always use sketches by Susan Stringfellow which works well for me because I LOVE Susan's sketches.  Once I got working on it I had a hard time  remembering why I got stuck in the first place!  I really only had to add the embellishments, banner and title.  Weird, weird times in the life of this scrapbooker.  Here is the sketch, and here is my page.

As you see, there are several print and cut images on here.  I am rockin' the Print and Cut on the Silhouette!  Here's the deal.  One of the things I didn't like about my Cricut system was the need to cut out like 50 gazillion tiny different pieces for some of the designs. And then of course I had to make sure the design wasn't too small or the chances of those pieces cutting cleanly went down tremendously.  I could have definitely cut out all of the little pieces of this scooter with my Silhouette because it performs much better in that regard, but why when I can flood fill it with the colors I want, print it and then still give it some dimension?  It saves a ton of time and I still love the way it looks.  Color me happy!  A bit of stitching, a few embellishments and it's done.  I really love the way this page turned out.  Now we've decided to send this to my Father - in - law.  I have to pick up a 12 x 12 shadowbox and then it will be on it's way to Florida as an impromptu gift.

Project Life - Week Four

It's Wednesday!  Project Life time!

So there it is.  I did fairly well in keeping the dimension to a minimum.  I am still really enjoying adding digital phrases, journaling, and stamps to my pictures for a different and fun way to jazz up the album, as well as using my Silhouette to Print & Cut journaling cards and tidbits here and there.  I think I'm only using one or two cards from the BH kits these days each week, which is fine.  This album is supposed to be whatever you want it to be and I imagine it will evolve as I get interested in some new technique etc.

Run & Jump - Use up those Alphabets!

Happy Friday everyone!  I actually had a fairly productive week for once, and hey, I got a lot of crafty projects completed this week.  Go Sabrina!  So today is my day to post on the PaperCraft Weekend Challenge Blog.  What is your challenge? Use those alphabets!  You know the ones I'm talking about.  The ones you picked up at the craft store because they were just so cute and you had to have them.  If you are anything like me they spend most of their time sitting in a drawer, only occasionally pulled out and even more rarely used.  So, I decided to challenge myself to use some of those alphabets on my page today.  And of course I got carried away and used a bunch more of pre-made embellishments.  But that's what happens when you finally pay attention to what you have!  Here is the page:

My awesome little guy!

So there you have it - pull out those alphabets, those stickers and those rub-ons.  I challenge you to create a project where you don't die cut your titles or words - use your stash!

Thanks so much to Caroline and Allison for having me today at PaperCraft Weekend Challengers.
